Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor granted temporary registration with Barcelona while the Higher Sports Council continues to analyze the case
BARCELONA — The Higher Sports Council of Spain granted Barcelona the precautionary measure requested by the club on Tuesday to register their players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor with LaLiga. This means both players can now be fielded immediately by the Catalan team, although they will not be available tonight against Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup.
The news surprised the Barcelona delegation in Saudi Arabia, as Hansi Flick had already decided on the starting lineup against Athletic, believing that the governmental body would not make a decision so quickly.
After two courts rejected the club’s requests and both the Spanish Football Federation and LaLiga turned down all of Barcelona’s arguments, the Higher Sports Council finally responded positively to the 52-page document sent by the club, allowing the two players to participate in the second half of the season.
In its decision, the Higher Sports Council warns that the measure “is provisional until the club and the players’ appeal is definitively resolved”, acknowledging that “licenses will remain valid until the present appeal is definitively resolved” but that it could go against Barcelona’s interests in the coming weeks or months.
In the resolution, the Higher Sports Council recognizes that professional athletes have the right to a sports career according to their potential with all guarantees, and also highlights the existence of immediate and difficult-to-repair damages to justify the speed of its decision.
“Not adopting this precautionary measure would cause serious economic and sporting harm to the club and, above all, to the players,” summarizes the decision in favor of Barcelona.
