Sean “Diddy” Combs Sues for Defamation Over Alleged Sex Tapes

Alleged Combs Texts Read in Court

Background

In May 2024, CNN released a video from 2016 showing an alleged assault by Combs on his then-girlfriend, Cassandra Ventura, also known as Cassie. This incident aligned with a lawsuit filed by Cassie against Combs on Nov. 16, 2023, which was settled the following day.

Combs’ Response

Combs took to Instagram to address the video, admitting to hitting “rock bottom” and expressing remorse for his actions. He acknowledged the inexcusable behavior shown in the footage, stating that he has since sought therapy and rehab to better himself.

Court Proceedings

During a hearing on Sept. 18 regarding Combs’ bail request, Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson referenced text messages allegedly sent by Combs after the assault. One message stated, “Call me, the cops are here,” while another mentioned his children, saying, “I have six kids. Call, I’m surrounded.” Johnson did not mention Cassie by name but revealed that the victim expressed disapproval of Combs’ actions in response to his texts.

U.S. District Judge Andrew L. Carter Jr. denied bail for Combs once again following the hearing.
