Simon Guobadia, the estranged husband of Porsha Williams, has been detained by ICE, according to records obtained by Us Weekly. Guobadia, who hails from Nigeria, is currently held at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia.
Guobadia’s immigration status is listed as “in ICE custody” amidst President Donald Trump’s mass deportation initiative, signed earlier this year. The order targets illegal immigrants for deportation to their home countries.
The 60-year-old Guobadia first came to the U.S. in 1982, but issues with his visa led to his declaration as deportable in 1985. Despite returning to America in 1986, he overstayed his work visa, leading to arrest for bank and credit card fraud in 1987. Further arrests in 1992 resulted in his deportation to Nigeria.
After brief returns to the U.S., Guobadia applied for naturalization in 2016, but the request was denied. Reports in 2024 indicate his repeated denial of residency in the country. Despite this, Guobadia seemed unperturbed, sharing positive messages on social media.
In a turn of events, Porsha Williams filed for divorce in February 2024 after 15 months of marriage. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star’s split from Guobadia was confirmed by a source, dispelling rumors about his citizenship status playing a role in the breakup.
Following their divorce, Williams was granted temporary possession of their shared residence in Georgia, allowing her to continue filming The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Despite a prenuptial agreement, the divorce proceedings are ongoing.
The situation surrounding Guobadia’s detention and legal status remains fluid, with further updates expected. Us Weekly continues to monitor the situation and seeks comment from relevant parties.
