In recent days, the dismantling of a criminal organization operating in Moreno and Gral Rodríguez was reported, led by someone known as “El Patrón,” who idolized the infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. Surprisingly, this is not an isolated case in our region, as there have been similar incidents in the past.
A display of devotion to Escobar included artwork featuring his face on a $100 bill and the phrase “El Patrón se lo respeta.” The group, composed of eight men aged between 22 and 30, was involved in a series of home invasions in the area before being apprehended in a coordinated raid.
This idolization of Escobar is not unique, as evidenced by previous incidents in the region. For instance, in September 2018, authorities raided a luxurious residence in Moreno-General Rodríguez area, where they found cocaine, a firearm, and even a painting of Pablo Escobar. The Peruvian citizen associated with the operation managed to evade capture, but a relative allegedly linked to his criminal activities was detained during the operation.
Similarly, in August 2019, Gastón Canteros, also known as “El Patrón de Moreno,” was arrested for his involvement in drug trafficking and fraudulent activities. Canteros’ estate was reminiscent of Escobar’s lavish lifestyle, complete with extravagant decorations and security measures. The police seized a significant amount of drugs, falsified documents, and cash during the raid at his residence.
The investigation leading to the organization’s dismantling began in January after a violent home invasion in the region. Subsequent incidents revealed a pattern of armed robberies in the area, prompting authorities to launch a thorough investigation under the oversight of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Moreno-General Rodríguez Judicial Department.
Through meticulous work and surveillance footage analysis, law enforcement identified the gang’s members and leaders, including “El Patrón.” Subsequent raids yielded incriminating evidence, such as firearms, drugs, and communication devices used to coordinate criminal activities.
The simultaneous raids across Moreno and General Rodríguez resulted in additional arrests and the confiscation of further incriminating items. The gang’s possession of police communication devices underscored the sophistication of their operations, aiding in the successful prosecution of all involved parties.
The authorities’ swift and coordinated efforts in dismantling this criminal organization highlight their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the community. The eradication of such activities is essential in maintaining law and order and preventing further criminal activities in the region. By apprehending these individuals and disrupting their illicit operations, law enforcement sends a clear message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our communities.
