The announcement of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 will take place tonight in New Orleans, the host city of Super Bowl 59. Among the finalists for induction is Antonio Gates, who was a basketball legend at Kent State before going on to have a record-setting career as an NFL tight end. Gates, who was a conspicuous snub in the 2024 class, is back as a finalist for a second year. Also returning as finalists from the modern era are wide receivers Torry Holt and Reggie Wayne, who are in their sixth year of being considered for induction. Additionally, quarterback Eli Manning is among the six first-year eligible finalists.
Ralph Hay, the long-ago owner of the Canton Bulldogs and a key figure in the formation of the National Football League over a century ago, is also in the running for induction. He is among the five finalists from three other categories being considered for the Class of 2025.
The official announcement of the Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will take place during NFL Honors, airing live on Fox and NFL Network at 9 p.m., with streaming available on NFL+. The enshrinement ceremony is expected to take place in Canton on August 2.
Among the notable modern-era finalists are Eric Allen, Jared Allen, Willie Anderson, Jahri Evans, Antonio Gates, Torry Holt, Luke Kuechly, Eli Manning, Steve Smith Sr., Terrell Suggs, Fred Taylor, Adam Vinatieri, Reggie Wayne, Darren Woodson, and Marshal Yanda.
The selection process involves the Hall’s Selection Committee electing up to five modern-era players with a minimum of 80% positive vote required. Each category (seniors, coaches, and contributors) is voted on separately, with a minimum of one and a maximum of three candidates being elected from these combined categories.
The Class of 2025 promises to be a diverse and talented group of individuals who have made significant contributions to the sport of football. Stay tuned for the official announcement and induction ceremony later this year.
