Prince Harry Prepares to Host 2025 Invictus Games in Canada
Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is gearing up to host the 2025 Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada from February 8 to February 16. Established by Harry in 2014, the competition is dedicated to injured, wounded, or sick servicemen and women, drawing inspiration from his military background.
According to Dominic Reid, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, the event holds significant personal and professional importance to Harry, reflecting his commitment to supporting and uplifting individuals through sports. The tournament aims to provide a platform for rehabilitation and empowerment to participants.
The opening ceremony will take place on February 8 at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, featuring performances by renowned artists like Katy Perry, Noah Kahan, Nelly Furtado, and Roxane Bruneau. The closing ceremony on February 16 at Rogers Arena will showcase talents like Jelly Roll, Barenaked Ladies, and The War and Treaty.
Over 550 athletes from 25 countries are expected to compete in various sports such as wheelchair curling, wheelchair basketball, alpine skiing, sitting volleyball, and indoor rowing. Notable changes include the use of lasers instead of rifles in the biathlon event to promote inclusivity for participants with disabilities.
Royal attendance is anticipated at the games with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, likely to join Harry at the events. Speculations suggest the presence of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark at the closing ceremony, maintaining the tradition of hosting esteemed guests like former U.S. presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama at previous games.
Audiences worldwide can watch the Invictus Games live on the organization’s official website, YouTube channel, and through various global broadcasters like TSN in Canada, ITV in the U.K., Sport En France in France, and SPORTDIGITAL in Germany. The event serves as a testament to Harry’s dedication to creating opportunities for individuals to thrive through sports and camaraderie.
