Singapore Airlines to Increase Seattle Flights by 25% in Late May 2025
The plan to launch a fifth weekly non-stop flight from Singapore Airlines to Seattle, hiking capacity by 25% and fulfilling a long-awaited pre-COVID plan, is set to take off from late May 2025. This milestone comes after a series of ups and downs for the route since its inception.
The announcement of non-stop flights between Singapore and Seattle was made back in November 2018, with the route officially debuting in September 2019. The service initially started with three weekly flights, which quickly increased to four times weekly the following month. The route saw impressive load factors of over 95% in some months, prompting Singapore Airlines to add a fifth weekly non-stop flight by late 2019.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global travel in March 2020, leading to the complete suspension of the service. This made Seattle the airline’s shortest-lived passenger route at the time, with plans put on hold for over five years.
Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, Singapore Airlines resumed flights on the Singapore – Vancouver – Seattle route in December 2021, operating four times weekly. By June 2022, the flights were de-linked from Vancouver, operating as dedicated non-stop services three times a week. In June 2024, the frequency to Seattle was increased to four times weekly.
The upcoming increase in service to five times weekly, starting from late May 2025, marks the fulfillment of the original plan set in March 2020. This capacity boost will see the weekly seat count rise from 2,024 to 2,530 – a significant increase that reflects the strong demand for the route.
Seattle has proven to be a popular destination for Singapore Airlines, with load factors reaching up to 95% in recent months. The route’s success has paved the way for further growth opportunities, especially as competitors like Cathay Pacific have yet to resume their flights to the Pacific Northwest.
In addition to the increased flights to Seattle, Singapore Airlines codeshares with Alaska Airlines, providing connectivity to various destinations across the USA and Mexico. This further enhances the reach and flexibility of the airline’s network.
Overall, the performance of the Seattle route has been positive, with consistently high load factors and strong passenger demand. The introduction of the fifth weekly flight signals Singapore Airlines’ commitment to expanding its presence in the region and capitalizing on the growing demand for travel between Asia and the Pacific Northwest.
With the upcoming schedule increase and continued success of the Seattle route, Singapore Airlines is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of travelers and further establish itself as a key player in the trans-Pacific market.
