Princess Anne recently revealed that she has no memory of the accident that led to her hospitalization last summer. During a trip to South Africa, the Princess Royal explained that she believed she was going to tend to her chickens, not her horses, prior to the incident at her Gatcombe Park estate. The 74-year-old spent five nights in the hospital with minor injuries and concussion.
Despite initial reports suggesting that her injuries were horse-related, Anne stated that she cannot recall being with her horses before the hospitalization. The palace described her hospital stay as a precautionary measure for observation, with an expectation of a full recovery.
The accident occurred during a challenging year for the royal family, as King Charles III and Princess Kate Middleton were dealing with cancer diagnoses. Middleton recently announced that she is in remission, while Charles is expected to resume his royal duties soon.
Anne has been recognized as the hardest-working royal, completing 217 engagements in 2024. When asked about retirement, she dismissed the idea, stating that it is not an option for her. Anne emphasized her commitment to her duties and suggested that retirement is not a consideration in her life.
