The Grammy’s Executive Producer Addresses Controversial Red Carpet Moment Involving Kanye West and Bianca Censori
An executive producer for the Grammy Awards is speaking out in response to the controversial red carpet moment involving Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori. The rapper and his wife faced backlash online after Censori dropped her fur coat on the red carpet before the 2025 awards ceremony, revealing a nearly nude look underneath with an exceedingly sheer minidress and seemingly no underwear. This sparked questions on social media about whether she violated the Grammys dress code or potentially broke the law.
Raj Kapoor, an executive producer for this year’s show, explained to People magazine that the dress code specified on guests’ invitations is “artistic black-tie,” but in the music industry, interpretation of this code can vary. Kapoor highlighted that there are specific dress code standards for performers on the show that must be followed, but attendees and nominees may have different guidelines set by the Recording Academy, which presents the Grammys.
Despite the controversy surrounding their attire, West, who was nominated for Best Rap Song for “Carnival,” and Censori spent some time on the red carpet before leaving the event prior to the show’s start. Contrary to some reports, they were not asked to leave the event.
Regarding the legality of Censori’s outfit, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that no investigation has been opened with the Los Angeles Police Department. Sources close to the couple shared with THR that the red carpet stunt was inspired by West’s album cover for Vultures 1, released in February 2024, which featured the backside of a topless woman in a thong and boots.
West took to Instagram, in a post that has since been deleted, to defend his wife’s transparent look, stating, “MY WIFE IS THE MOST GOOGLED PERSON ON THE PLANET CALLED EARTH,” and adding, “WE BEAT THE GRAMMIES [sic].”
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to the Grammys for comment on the situation, but no response has been provided as of yet.
