Cynthia Erivo Excited for Final ‘Wicked’ Film, Can’t Wait Until 2025

Cynthia Erivo is eagerly anticipating the release of the final installment of the ‘Wicked’ film series in November 2025. The actress recently revealed that she has only seen a small amount of the upcoming movie and is waiting impatiently to watch the completed version. Despite her eagerness, director Jon M. Chu has not allowed her to see the final cut yet, prompting Erivo to joke that she might have to force her way into the editing room.

Erivo, who was in Park City to receive the Visionary Award at the Sundance Film Festival, also found out about her Academy Award nomination for best actress while flying from London. The news of her nomination and the 10 nominations received by ‘Wicked’, including best picture and a supporting actress nod for Ariana Grande, left her emotional. She received messages of congratulations from friends and family, including tearful voice notes from Grande, causing her to shed happy tears on the flight.

On the eve of the Oscar nominations, the Broadway production of ‘Wicked’ announced its new cast, with Lencia Kebede becoming the first Black actress to play Elphaba full-time on Broadway. Erivo expressed her support for Kebede, noting that she plans to attend her first show and send her flowers to celebrate the historic moment.
