Reese Witherspoon is currently in search of the perfect teenage Elle Woods for the upcoming Prime Video prequel series, Elle. The actress, known for her role in the Legally Blonde movies, shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she is faced with the task of selecting a girl to play a young version of herself.
Witherspoon expressed her excitement at watching all the audition tapes, stating that she loves each one and appreciates the effort put into them. She noted the difference in the casting process today compared to when she first auditioned for Legally Blonde, mentioning the elaborate production involved in modern-day auditions.
The Elle prequel series, which will be produced by Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine banner, will delve into the origin story of Elle Woods as a high schooler in the 1990s. Laura Kittrell, the series creator and showrunner, along with other producers, are working on bringing this project to life.
During her interview with Jimmy Fallon, Witherspoon revealed that the idea for the prequel series stemmed from watching Netflix’s Wednesday, which focused on a high school version of the iconic character. Inspired by this, Witherspoon decided to explore Elle Woods’ backstory before college and law school, resulting in the development of the Elle series.
As of now, a release date for Elle has not been announced, but fans can expect an exciting journey into the early life of the beloved character Elle Woods.
