Why The 10th Movie Should Be the Final Installment of the Franchise

Tom Selleck has big plans for the future of the “Jesse Stone” series, but he believes the tenth movie should wrap up the series. As “Blue Bloods” comes to an end, there is talk of bringing back “Jesse Stone,” with the last entry being 2015’s “Lost in Paradise.” Selleck has starred in nine “Jesse Stone” movies so far, and although he initially intended to balance the franchise with his “Blue Bloods” commitments, it didn’t work out that way. With his schedule clearing up, Selleck has confirmed his interest in a “Jesse Stone” return, stating that part ten “… wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it.”

One challenge with the next installment is the decade-long gap since “Lost in Paradise.” The passage of time means the next “Jesse Stone” cannot simply continue ongoing plot threads like previous sequels, so the time gap will need to be addressed. It may also require a soft reboot to appeal to new viewers. Selleck’s return as Jesse Stone is exciting, but he may need to scale back his ambitions for the future of the series.

It is unclear if another “Jesse Stone” movie will happen, but Selleck has shown interest in continuing the franchise. Given his enthusiasm for the role, the chances of another sequel are strong, and they are not overly expensive to produce. However, the longer-term future of the franchise is uncertain, and it may be more fitting to make part ten the finale and allow Jesse Stone to retire peacefully.

The “Jesse Stone” series follows the character’s battles with alcoholism, troubled past, and crime investigations. Selleck portrays Jesse Stone, a former LAPD detective turned police chief in Paradise, Massachusetts. The character-driven plots have captivated audiences, making a one-off finale a fitting end to the saga. It would tie up loose ends and provide closure for both the character and fans of the series.
